Why do you need to train your contract manufacturer? Shouldn’t they know everything about manufacturing?

What they don’t know is your physical product. Your product is unique and there are things that are important to you that aren’t important to the other products they make. You have a vision for your product -its appearance, function, and it represents your brand. How do you get your contract manufacturer to catch the vision for your product?

In this panel we’ll have a couple local entrepreneurs tell their story of how they trained their contract manufacturer – what worked, what didn’t work, and their advice for others who are looking at using contract manufacturing. We will also have a couple people who work in manufacturing talk about the typical methods used in industry for learning about each customers’ product.

Our panelists include:
Paola Shah – CEO of Tucketts - Entrepreneur, travel-lover, and mom, born in Colombia and has lived in places such as Paris, London, New York. She currently calls Boulder home where she is the founder and CEO of Tucketts, an athletic sock brand with an environmental and social mission to promote peace. Successfully built a tight relationship with her factory achieving high quality productions as well as growing her business across multiple selling channels and countries.

Ralph Kuhlmeier – CEO of Adventure Mat

Sikander Shah – Former Director of Operations for Alsteelflash. Mr. Shah has spent much of his career as a Director of Program Management and Business Unit Director in some of the world’s largest contract manufacturers including Alsteelflash, Benchmark Electronics, and Solectron. In his expertise in factory operations, supply chain, planning, and scheduling, he has seen what works well and where contract manufacturers struggle when bringing up a new design. The perspective he brings to the panel will give the audience the opportunity to understand the processes contract manufacturers use when introducing a new product to their production line.

Joel Blake – Manufacturer’s Representative at Marketing Technologies. Mr. Blake is a Partner at Marketing Technologies, a technical sales agency delivering electromechanical manufacturing solutions across the Mountain West since 1980. Marketing Technologies represents U.S.-based manufacturers of custom plastic, metal, and electronic components and assemblies. Joel holds a bachelor's degree with honors from Georgia Tech's #1-ranked Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering.

Moderated by Jenney Loper – Fractional COO at JSL Solutions. Ms. Loper, the founder of JSL Solutions, has nearly two decades of experience in developing and manufacturing physical products in Colorado's Front Range. Most of her experience is working with small technology companies that have immature business practices. For much of her career she has created processes and infrastructure in supply chain, quality and manufacturing positioned for sustainable growth. In the last 6 years, Ms. Loper has focused her efforts on working with design teams to better prepare products for manufacturing before transitioning completed designs into scalable production.
