The RIGHT to Prototype: Library Makerspaces as Hardware Accelerators
Limited Capacity seats available

Boulder Library's BLDG 61 Makerspace is a permanent 1500 sq/ft high tech fabrication lab where community members can use laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC routers, sewing machines, a full electronics bench and more, all for free. In addition to being nationally recognized for it's contributions to libraries and education, BLDG 61 has helped over 60 small companies bootstrap forward with no consulting costs, IP contracts or tech transfer fees. They will tell the story of piloting pipeline programs with Boulder's award-winning Small Business Development Center to give startups an extra resource for local, free range, home grown product development. Join Adam Watts, Janet Hollingsworth and Zack Weaver, BLDG 61's Creative Technologists for testimonials and a panel discussion on this radical alternative for hardware startups.

Using storytelling to compel and persuade in design
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

We all know a good story when we hear it, but telling a compelling one ourselves can often feel like a skill reserved for the entertainers and writers of the world. By tapping into this innate skill, we’ll learn how to better position our work and inspire others.

In this session, we’ll talk about how to use the power of storytelling to better understand your own work, and engage and persuade others. Through hands-on exercises, you’ll learn how to apply techniques like narrative arcs that can help you more compellingly frame your work. Though this talk is targeted at designers, it’s well suited to anyone in the business of creating.

The Basics of Branding for Startups
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

When it comes to branding, you don’t need to know all the things. But if you want your startup to become (or remain) successful, there is some stuff you need to know — like the basic branding fundamentals, the role branding plays in your industry, and what that means for your business, marketing budget, app design, and Instagram feed.

Ally Fouts, is a creative director at Viget, a design and engineering firm that works with startups in various stages of growth and brand development. In this talk, she will go over how branding works, why it matters to startups, and when early-stage companies need to start caring about it.
